I mentioned in my first post that I was a serial relocator. We moved in June from CA to NYC, and have ever since been seeking out wonderful restaurants that are easy on the purse strings. During our New York City house-hunting trip in May 2016, we stayed at the Gansevoort Hotel on Park and 29th – thanks to my husband’s employers of course. We loved exploring that neighborhood (Kips Bay, Murray Hill) and stumbled upon Vezzo on 31st and Lexington during dinnertime.
First impressions: smart, dimly-lit, welcoming to millennials/kids/regular people, cute wine bar, friendly service. The pizzas – wow! They specialize in thin crust deliciousness and the prices, given its convenient and lively location, are pretty reasonable.
We loved our meal in May 2016, and funnily enough, a few months later, my husband rented a studio literally 20 seconds away on 31st and Lex. It finally hit us that it was a stone’s throw from Vezzo – what a pleasant surprise. Since then, between him and me, we have been to Vezzo at least 5 times. We visited again last Saturday.
Vezzo continues to be consistent with its food, ambiance, and service. It was teeming with people around 8 pm on Sat, Oct 14th. We ordered Tres Fuegos – a fabulous concotion of seasoned shrimps and chorizo in a spicy sauce with manchego cheese. The large pizza was priced at $28 and at 16″, the right size for a family of 2.5. It was nice to depart from the usual pepperoni/vodka sauce combo, and my 8-year old daughter chowed it down with gusto. She is becoming quite the NYC kid with her adventurous palate, and we are grateful.
So if you’re shopping or sightseeing in the Macy’s/Herald Square area and are in need to good quality and wallet-friendly sustenance, look no further than Vezzo, a popular neighborhood spot serving delish Italian food.
