As you know from my earlier posts, I moved to the UES recently and am on a walking quest to uncover local gems. Two Little Red Hens is a cute little bakery on the UES, on 86th and 2nd. You can’t miss its red and white striped awning if you’re in the area. It was recommended by a friend, and I revisited for the second time yesterday. I’ve only ever tried the cupcakes – the regular sizes go for $3 or $4 and the mini ones for about $1-1.50.
The cupcakes are unbelievably moist. The frosting varies from good to great in my opinion. They currently have the seasonal ‘Pumpkin Harvest’, which is gobsmackingly good! Two Little Red Hens opened up in 1992 and has a really warm feel. It’s quite small inside but charming too, and the service is always friendly.
Other flavors that look yummy but I haven’t tried are Brooklyn Blackout, Key Lime, Boston Cream, and Lemon Gingerbread, to name a few. Looking closer at the menu, they also do specialty and regular cakes, cheesecakes, and pies!!! I love baking, but this place might mark the end of that hobby!
Let me know if you’ve tried Two Little Red Hens or have an even better NYC recommendation. Somehow I doubt it…
